MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cash Game Ace

Caleb Smith (9.4k FD, 10.6k DK) vs. Arizona

It’s well known here at FanSided Fantasy that Caleb Smith is one of my man crushes. When he went on the IL for about a month during June, I struggled with doubts of depression as I was unable to write him up or click his name into my lineups. It was so bad that @2locksports staged an intervention with the rest of the MLB DFS baseball staff to help me move on with my life and find other pitchers that I could love and respect as much as I did Caleb.

Then on July 6th, something beautiful happened. Caleb Smith returned to my life and pitched six solid innings against Atlanta. Then he did it again in his next start against the Mets. After underperforming a bit against the Padres in his third start, Smith finally showed his ace stuff in his fourth start back as he racked up 55 FanDuel points while striking out 9 White Sox batters over 7 innings.

So, here we find ourselves on another Caleb Smith day. He’s pitching at home which always helps his fly ball tendency and facing a Diamondbacks team that should be a solid challenge as they hit lefties pretty well. Vegas sees this game as a close low scoring affair with both teams implied for only 3.8 runs. With a lot of other games in better hitting stadiums and weather, I love the idea of rostering Smith and possibly even Kelly in this game.
