MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cheap Arm/SP2

Kenta Maeda (6.4k FD, 6.8k DK) @ Colorado

Some players will never use a pitcher in a Coors Field game. I am not one of those people. The price on Maeda is very attractive on both sites for a pitcher of his talent and he has a solid history of pitching well at Coors Field that makes me feel pretty confident that his pitch mix will be less affected by the high altitude than other pitchers.

Maeda has a 5-1 record with an ERA of 3.12 against the Rockies in Coors. He’s racked up 44 strikeouts in 40 innings spanning 10 appearances (7 starts) in Coors. He’s got a 25% strikeout rate this year and has always been able to miss bats in his short career due to a unique pitch mix.

Maeda doesn’t throw many conventional fastballs. He throws a two-seamer with some good downward movement while mixing in a cutter, slider, curveball, and changeup. This Rockies team is always dangerous at home, but they are striking out 24% of the time and are coming off a road trip where they were held under 3 runs in 4 of the 6 games against Washington and Cincinnati, both of which are also good hitters’ parks.

Fire up Maeda in GPPs at low ownership. He doesn’t have to do too much for him to make value and I love his upside.
