2018 Review: A year ago, the Green and White turned over the quarterbacking reins to rookie Sam Darnold – the 3rd overall pick in the 2018 draft. And while he showed flashes and certainly appears to be the team’s long-term answer at the position, the turnover issues (15 interceptions, 2 lost fumbles in 13 games) that plagued him a bit at USC came back to haunt him at times in his debut season. The team struggled once again to consistently run the football (26th in the NFL), was limited to 17 points or less in nine games and totaled only 29 offensive touchdowns.

2019 Key Additions: The signing of running back Le’Veon Bell was a major coup for new head coach Adam Gase. He’s already proven he can carry a heavy workload comment – as evidenced by his 408 touches from scrimmage in ‘17 with the Steelers. The addition of slot receiver Jamison Crowder helps as well. And the club swung a deal with the Raiders in March for quality guard Kelechi Osemele. Running back Ty Montgomery (Ravens) adds depth.

Analysis: There is certainly some potential here for immediate growth. Bell can be a workhorse and also gives Darnold a superior receiving threat out of the backfield. Wide receivers Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa make for an unsung duo and the addition of Crowder is a big plus as well. This is a Jets’ attack that could surprise many early on, especially if the offensive line holds up. But it will be interesting to see if it has any staying power in ’19.
