Power ranking the NFL offenses for 2019
15. Green Bay Packers
2018 Review: The numbers show that talented quarterback Aaron Rodgers once again showed why he’s among the best players in the game at his position. But a closer look at those 25 TD passes and just two interceptions say other otherwise. He wasn’t quite himself due to a Week 1 knee injury and his 62.3 completion percentage was his lowest since 2015. Green Bay’s running attack made only occasional appearances and the team’s offensive line was inconsistent as well. It was one of many reasons head coach Mike McCarthy was dismissed after 12 games.
2019 Key Additions: Most of the club’s offseason was spent on bolstering a very disappointing defensive unit. In free agency, the Packers added Billy Turner (Denver Broncos) – who’s expected to be the starter at right guard this season. General manager Brian Kutekunst also used a second-round pick this year on offensive line help in interior prospect Elgton Jenkins (Mississippi State) and in the third round, selected Texas A&M tight end Jace Sternberger.
Analysis: Rodgers has battled injuries the past two seasons and there are some questioning this durability. That’s certainly fair, but if this offense is to succeed there must be more balance. No team in the NFL total fewer running plays than the Packers in 2018. LaFleur has a lot of weapons at his disposal and the team’s offensive line must do a better job. By season’s end, this could be a very potent unit but there will be an early feeling-out process.
