Power ranking the NFL offenses for 2019
11. Pittsburgh Steelers
2018 Review: While some of the numbers are impressive, this wound up being a bit of a flawed unit by season’s end. The team lacked offensive balance in its final seven games and was one reason for the late slump. Veteran Ben Roethlisberger led the NFL in passing yards but also served up a league-high 16 interceptions. Running back James Conner would prove to be an effective replacement for Le’Veon Bell but struggled with injuries late in the year. Antonio Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster caught 100-plus passes, the former totaling 15 TD receptions.
2019 Key Additions: Per usual, the Steelers weren’t very busy during free agency. But general manager Kevin Colbert may have hit the jackpot with the signing of wideout Donte Moncrief. The former member of the Colts spent 2018 with Jacksonville and so far the reviews have been good. The club also opted for more help at the skill positions by drafting wide receiver Diontae Johnson (3-Toledo) and running back Benny Snell (4-Kentucky).
Analysis: It will be much different in the Steel City without Brown – a member of the team for the past nine seasons. Bell didn’t play a year ago and his departure won’t be felt nearly as much. But this is still a team with an immense amount of talent at the skill positions and also features one of the top offensive lines in the league. The way Pittsburgh does business offensively may be a little different. But they figure to be extremely effective.
