4. Kansas City Chiefs

2018 Review: In his second NFL season and first as a starter, quarterback Patrick Mahomes lit up the league by throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns for Andy Reid’s club. The 2018 league MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Year was part of a team that scored 565 points – the third-highest single-season total in NFL history. Electrifying wide receiver Tyreek Hill ran through opposing defenses at will – averaging 17.0 yards on his 87 grabs –and Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce was once again a huge factor. The duo combined for 190 catches, 22 for scores.

2019 Key Additions: Although Reid’s team didn’t have a first-round pick in April, Kansas City used a Day 2 selection on wide receiver Mecole Hardman (2-Georgia). The Chiefs added some depth to the ground game by grabbing Carlos Hyde in free agency and Darwin Thompson (6b-Utah State) in the draft. Elswwhere, the defending AFC West champions signed a trio of tight ends in Blake Bell (Jaguars), John Phillips (Cardinals) and Neal Sterling (Jets).

Analysis: It’s worth noting that the last team to lead the league in point production two consecutive years were Sean Payton’s New Orleans Saints in 2008 and ‘09. Of course, many are wondering whether Mahomes can come close to matching what he did in 2018. There are some questions when it comes to the running game but Reid is counting on Damien Williams to be the main threat out of the backfield. This attack will be again be hard to stop.
