2018 Review: It was an uneven year for a team that rolled to 13 victories and a Super Bowl title one season earlier. With Carson Wentz still on the mend, veteran Nick Foles got the start the first two weeks and wound up the starter down the stretch and in the playoffs. As for the third-year field general, the talented performer did throw for 21 scores (7 interceptions). But he looked tentative too many times. After finishing third in the league in rushing in ‘17, the Birds fell to 28th in that key category. Zach Ertz set a single-season record for catches by a tight end (116).
2019 Key Additions: It was a busy offseason for GM Howie Roseman, who swung a deal with the Bears for running back Jordan Howard and orchestrated a trade with the Buccaneers to bring DeSean Jackson back to Philadelphia. The Eagles selected five players in April’s draft – four on offense – including promising tackle Andre Dillard (1-Washington), running back Miles Sanders (2-Penn State) and wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (2b-Stanford)
Analysis: The only real question mark here is Wentz’s health. Did he come back too soon a year ago? In any case, the addition of Howard – who totaled 250-plus carries in each of his three seasons with the Bears – should help a ground attack that was problem-plagued in 2018. The Eagles feature one of the game’s better offensive lines and with Ertz, Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Jackson, the three-year quarterback has plenty of options.
