Power ranking the NFL offenses for 2019
2. Indianapolis Colts
2018 Review: It was obviously obvious early in the season that quarterback Andrew Luck – who missed all of 2017 with a shoulder issue – wasn’t quite himself yet. Six games into the season, the Colts owned a 1-5 record and the talented signal-caller hadn’t quite gotten into rhythm. But eventually the offensive line began to gel, running back Marlon Mack became more of a focal point and head coach Frank Reich stressed balance. Luck finished with 39 touchdown passes – second-most in the league – and earned NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors.
2019 Key Additions: General manager Chris Ballard used seven of his 10 draft choices on defensive help and two of the other three on offensive line depth. The one skill position player was wideout Parris Campbell, the last of the club’s three second-round selections. He could have an immediate impact, teamed with T.Y. Hilton and free-agent pickup Devin Funchess to give Luck quite the trio. Running back Spencer Ware (Chiefs) was added for depth.
Analysis: As time wore on a year ago, the Colts’ attack became far more than a one-man show. Youth will continue to be served on the offensive line thanks to Nelson and Smith and Mack should pick up where he left off a year ago. Luck still needs to cut back a bit on the turnovers. But he now has a nice 1-2 punch at both wide receiver with the signing of Funchess. And a healthy Jack Doyle gives the Colts a potent duo at tight end. Expect big things in ‘19.
