Power ranking the NFL offenses for 2019
28. Cincinnati Bengals
2018 Review: Although it still wound up showing improvement from the previous season, Cincinnati’s offense was not without its various problems a season ago. And the biggest may have been health as veteran quarterback Andy Dalton wound up missing five games and wide out A.J. Green played in only nine contests. On the positive side, running back Joe Mixon took the reins and led the team in rushing (1,168), yards from scrimmage (1,464) and total touchdowns (9). And wide receivers Tyler Boyd and John Ross tied for the team lead with seven TD receptions.
2019 Key Additions: For the first time since 2002, Marvin Lewis won’t be the team’s sideline leader. Former Rams’ quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor has the job and Brian Callahan is the club’s new offensive coordinator. In terms of free agency, the club added guards John Miller and John Jerry, although the latter did not play in 2018. The Bengals also addressed the offensive front with the 11th overall selection in April but there’s already been some bad news.
Analysis: The team’s biggest issues in recent seasons been the offensive front and it’s already been a tough 2019 for the club. The Bengals have apparently lost 2019 first-round pick Jonah Williams for the year and veteran left guard Clint Boling opted for retirement, which wasn’t a total surprise. When healthy, Dalton and Green are one of the premier tandems in the league and Mixon is on the rise. But it may not all work if the line isn’t settled.
