Power ranking the NFL offenses for 2019
27. Tennessee Titans
2018 Review: For the second straight season, injuries and inconsistency plagued this unit. First-time NFL head coach Mike Vrbael saw his team total the seventh-most rushing yards in the NFL – thanks mainly to a strong second-half performance by running back Derrick Henry. But quarterback Marcus Mariota failed to play a full season for the fourth time in as many years. Only three teams in the league averaged fewer passing yards per game and Tennessee’s aerial attack scored only 16 TDs. Losing tight end Delanie Walker in Week 1 was a big blow.
2019 Key Additions: Once again, the franchise was fairly quiet during the free-agency period. While the club did swing a deal with the Dolphins for veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill – brought in to backup Mariota – arguably the team’s top offensive additions were wide receiver Adam Humphries (Buccaneers) and quality guard Rodger Saffold (Rams). In the second round of April’s draft, the Titans opted for Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown.
Analysis: The return of Walker and the addition of Humphries should aid the passing game. Can Henry pick up where he left off in ‘18, running for 585 yards and seven scores in the final four games? How will the team handle left tackle Taylor Lewan’s four-game suspension to start the season? And can Mariota finally stay healthy?
