7. Herm Edwards, Arizona State

How can anyone dislike Herm Edwards these days?

Besides being one of the more likable guys in college football, he’s a winner. He coached in the NFL and didn’t shy away from stepping outside of his comfort zone and taking over Arizona State after never having head coached at the collegiate level.

OK, so maybe his NFL record isn’t so pretty, but he is one of the most real coaches out there and isn’t afraid to tell it how it is — just look back at some of his press conferences when he was with the Jets. The whole “you play to win the game” quote is still talked about today and that’s when he became a household name.

Edwards, 65, is much more watered down in his older age but that doesn’t mean he can’t have a good time. Get a couple of adult beverages in him and listen to him open up like a book.

Having one of the most quotable coaches of all time at your tailgate can only yield positive results, right?
