15 college football coaches who would be the life of the tailgate party
14. Derek Mason, Vanderbilt
Did you see Derek Mason getting intense when defending his players against Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators last season? That’s the kind of loyalty and intensity that would make any tailgate party a good time, especially if he’s on your team.
The former Northern Arizona cornerback might not be the life of the party with opposing fans, but man would he be fun if he’s donning your school colors.
Mason might be approaching 50 years old but he definitely doesn’t act like it. He connects to the younger players and that would be perfect if you’re having a lively tailgate party. Plus, he’s plenty competitive so you’ll never have to worry if he’s on your team for any party games.
Basically, Mason is one of the most passionate coaches at the collegiate level and if he parties as intensely as he coaches, he’s going to be fun to be around.
It’s hard to keep the same energy as James Franklin after he left Vanderbilt, but the 49-year-old head coach has done just that.
