A 5-star recruit coming out of high school (and, famously, a high-end MLB prospect as well), Kyler Murray ultimately decided to head to College Station to play for the Texas A&M Aggies. However, Murray’s start to his college career was less than ceremonious as he was placed immediately into a quarterback competition with Kyle Allen, a battle that Murray lost.

For much of his freshman season, Murray was a gadget player used sparingly behind Allen. However, he got an opportunity to take over the Aggies offense when Allen succumbed to injury and put up some solid numbers. Murray appeared in eight total games, throwing for 686 yards, five touchdowns and seven picks while rushing for 335 yards and a score. After that season with competition again looming, though, Murray elected to transfer to Oklahoma.

Due to the transfer rules, Murray sat out the 2016 season for the Sooners and hardly saw the field in his redshirt sophomore campaign thanks to some guy named Baker Mayfield having the job. Having said that, Murray came in sporadically and flashed enormous potential. In seven brief appearances, he went 18-of-21 for 359 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while also taking 14 carries for 142 yards.

With Mayfield graduating, it was Murray’s time to shine in 2018 and he took advantage. En route to winning the Heisman Trophy, Murray threw for 4,361 yards, 42 touchdowns and just seven interceptions while rushing for 1,001 yards and 12 scores as well.

Since Murray only had one true season in college football as a starter, it’s hard to put him too high. However, there’s also no forgetting just how electric and fantastic his play was during that one season, hence his spot in this ranking.
