Fantasy Football 2019 FanSided Mock Draft Pick 5 Breakdown
By Bill Pivetz
Fantasy Football 2019 FanSided Mock Draft – These rounds are where I built my bench for the bye weeks.
6.68 Evan Engram
As if the trade of Odell Beckham wasn’t enough, the injuries to Sterling Shepard and Corey Coleman and possible suspension to Golden Tate opens up a ton of targets in the Giants offense.
The third-year tight end missed five games last season, so seeing him fall to the sixth round is expected. I drafted him as the fourth tight end off the board. This started a little run of tight ends going in the next round.
As long as he can stay healthy, he’ll be a top-five tight end all season.
7.77 Christian Kirk
The rookie wide receiver caught 43 passes for 590 yards and three touchdowns. Kirk should see improvements in all three stats this season.
Veteran Larry Fitzgerald will take a lesser role and the addition of Kyler Murray should spark this offense. It helps that they have a solid running back in David Johnson.
He’s got a high ceiling but the floor is pretty low based on his 2018 performance. I could have gone with Curtis Samuel or Fuller but I like Kirk as the clear WR2 in Arizona. The seventh and eighth rounds saw a lot of running backs get drafted.
8.92 Matt Ryan
I may have reached here based on the number of quarterbacks that were still on the board, Tom Brady was drafted in Round 10, Jared Goff and Philip Rivers in Round 11, but Ryan is one of the more consistent quarterbacks.
He threw 608 passes for 4,924 yards, 35 touchdowns and just seven interceptions last season. The wide receiver duo of Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley is better than what a lot of quarterbacks have at their disposal.
Ryan has played every game between 2010 and 2018. You can’t predict injuries, but you can bank on Ryan playing in all 16 games this season.
9.101 Devin Funchess
Funchess moving to Indianapolis boosts his fantasy value. The Panthers offense struggled as Cam Newton was under pressure a ton. It’s not a good sign when the running back almost doubles the next player in receptions, 107 to 55.
Funchess is now the No. 2 receiver for the Colts behind Hilton. That helps both players. Funchess is still just 25 years old. The defense can’t double-team Hilton on every play. Plus, the one-two punch of Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle opens up the field.
Funchess had 63 catches, 840 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017. I think he can get close to that this season with Luck throwing to him.
10.116 Kyle Rudolph
With a tight end and two flex spots, drafting a second tight end makes more sense than in a one-flex league. I had two tight ends before some owners had one. I can easily start both or just play the matchups.
Rudolph has played in every game over the last four years after having back-to-back shortened seasons. Though, his stats have not been consistent. His touchdown totals in those seasons were five, seven, eight and four.
With Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs as the top pass catchers, Rudolph will likely draw a linebacker in coverage, which gives him the advantage in the middle of the field.
