MLB DFS – Building Our Bats

With a larger slate tonight and one night after Coors Field flopped, I think tonight is the night you go back to the well with a game-stack here with two lefties (Urias and Freeland) on the mound all with 90+ degree temperatures and 10+ MPH winds blowing out.

Let’s keep this simple – with a lefty on the mound, every build should start with Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story who have .330 and .297 ISO marks against lefties since the start of 2018. Now Urias has actually shown reverse splits in his limited minor league action, suppressing power to RHB to the tune of a .093 ISO but Arenado/Story in this stadium and this hitting environment are completely different animals.

The Dodgers side of this game also becomes very interesting as the usual right-handed bats we would target are all on the IL – Chris Taylor, Enrique Hernandez and David Freese, which could open up some serious value depending on what the Dodgers roll out.

Tyler White ($6.6K) could be pushed into the heart of this Dodgers line-up and at this price, against a lefty in Coors, he would become massive chalk but one that you likely want a piece of. The real beauty of using White is that it opens up the stacking possibilities to include the bigger bats from LA – Cody Bellinger, AJ Pollock and Justin Turner – with Belly’s .311 ISO against LHP in 2019 leading the entire Dodger team despite the platoon “dis-advantage.”

Stacking Coors is certainly not sneaky, but the point is – it is very possible, even with a high-end SP1 tonight.

One of the ways we get there as we always push in Picks and Pivots is finding that free square and one that jumped out to me right away was the newly re-instated Travis Shaw ($3.9K) who is a  minimum priced hitter facing a righty, with a .249 ISO mark against RHP since 2018. This is a flat-out mis-price in my opinion and an easy bath to a Thor/Coors game stack tonight.
