MLB DFS: Simmering Sluggers- Week of 7/29-8/4: 2B, 3B

SECOND BASE:

Robel Garcia, CHC

Batting line from 7/18-7/28: .167 average (5-for-30), one triple, one home run, two RBI, one walk, one run

    • Line-Drive Rate from 7/18-7/28: 27.8 percent
    • Hard-Contact Rate from 7/18-7/28: 36.8 percent
  • BABIP from 7/18-7/28: .222
  • Plate appearances from 7/18-7/28: 31

Quick analysis: Garcia has been solid over his first 18 big-league games, but he’s run into some frustration at the plate recently. As cited above, Garcia has posted a very strong line-drive rate and a rock-solid hard-contact rate as well over the last 10 days. He does have a couple of extra-base hits to show for it. but you can be certain an abnormally low .222 BABIP has prevented him from coming close to maximizing his batted-ball profile. Garcia has some inconsistent veteran arms on his ledger this coming week in the form of Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas and Chase Anderson, and he should be able to capitalize if he keeps up similar numbers.

THIRD BASE:

Alex Bregman, HOU

Batting line from 7/18-7/28: .172 average (5-for-29), one double, two home runs, three RBI, seven walks, one hit by pitch, nine runs

  • Line-Drive Rate from 7/18-7/28: 20.8 percent
  • Hard-Contact Rate from 7/18-7/28: 58.3 percent
  • BABIP from 7/18-7/28: .136
  • Plate appearances from 7/18-7/28: 37

Quick analysis: Bregman is an interesting case for the period cited above. On the one hand, he does have three extra-base hits during the 10-day sample we’re reviewing. However, a .136 BABIP is frustratingly low and has lead to a miserable stretch for Bregman overall. The slugging third baseman could be due for a breakout this week, however. He’ll draw favorable matchups against Adam Plutko and Yusei Kikuchi. Then, while his Saturday matchup against Marco Gonzales isn’t particularly enticing on paper, it’s worth noting Bregman owns a career .545 average versus the left-hander.
