MLB DFS: Simmering Sluggers- Week of 7/29-8/4
MLB DFS: Simmering Sluggers- Week of 7/29-8/4: SS, OF
SHORTSTOP:
Mike Freeman, CLE
Batting line from 7/18-7/28: .100 average (2-for-20), two RBI, one walk, one hit by pitch, two runs
- Line-Drive Rate from 7/18-7/28: 33.3 percent
- Hard-Contact Rate from 7/18-7/28: 38.9 percent
- BABIP from 7/18-7/28: .125
- Plate appearances from 7/18-7/28: 25
Quick analysis: Freeman’s LD rate over the last 10 days is elite and his HC rate close to that level as well, but he hasn’t been able to muster anything more than a pair of singles during that span. The veteran does run into some very tough matchups in the coming week in the form of Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole, but he’ll also get a crack at the likes of Jose Urquidy and Jaime Barria.
ALSO CONSIDER: Brandon Crawford, SFG
OUTFIELD:
Shohei Ohtani, LAA:
Batting line from 7/18-7/28: .188 average (6-for-32), one double, one triple, one home run, two RBI, four walks, one hit by pitch, two stolen bases, two runs
- Line-Drive Rate from 7/18-7/28: 24.0 percent
- Hard-Contact Rate from 7/18-7/28: 44.0 percent
- BABIP from 7/18-7/28: .208
- Plate appearances from 7/18-7/28: 37
Quick analysis: Ohtani naturally has the talent to go on a heater at any time. Considering the way he’s been hitting the ball in recent games, that breakout could be imminent. The talented outfielder has a trio of extra-base hits over the 10-day span cited above, but the .208 BABIP he’s generated over that span has still led to a paltry .188 average. Ohtani does have a tough trio to deal with in Cleveland late in the week in the form of Mike Clevinger, Trevor Bauer and Shane Bieber, but his ability should shine through if he can replicate his batted-ball profile.
ALSO CONSIDER: George Springer, HOU; Mike Trout, LAA
