PGA FanDuel Picks: The 2019 Wyndham Championship
PGA FanDuel Picks – Top Tier Picks: ($11,000+)
Webb Simpson – $11,900 – (Cash/GPP)
If you are a regular reader, things will be a bit different this week. Over the last month or so, my picks have been below-average for the most part, a far cry from the success of the first half of the year. And what that has done, has forced me to take a much closer look at this week, and I have found things will not be normal around here for the final week of the PGA regular season.
I am throwing the completely balanced approach out of the window this week, as there are just two great value plays below $8K this week compared to what we have in the $9-10K range. With that said, these top salary golfers who usually have the GPP tag you will notice have the cash tag this week for the most part.
That brings us to my top play in the field this week, Webb Simpson. I haven’t quite had a play I have been this confident in a long time now, and I would be willing to bet I am not alone on this one. I mean, what is not to like here?
Simpson has incredibly impressive course history at Sedgefield Country Club, including a win in 2011 and back-to-back T-3 or better finishes over the last two years. And on top of being the highest-ranked golfer in the OWGR in this entire field, he is also one of the hottest.
He comes into the Wyndham Championship off of an impressive Sunday at TPC Southland last week, in which he carded a 64, and moved into a solo second-place finish. It was Simpson’s second runner-up finish in his last four events.
I haven’t used this approach in quite some time in cash games, but it makes a ton of sense with the separation at the top, and the value on the bottom. On top of that, other than a couple of options in the $10-11K range, I don’t feel much is “safe” this week four numerous reasons. It is hard not to expect a top-five from Simpson here at the very least, and I am contemplating using him in all 25 of my lineups on FanDuel this week.
Collin Morikawa – $11,600 – (Cash)
Beating out Simpson for the title of who has the absolute best form coming in, is the newest PGA Tour winner, Collin Morikawa. The 22-year-old rookie drained a 30′ birdie putt on 18 at the Barracuda Championship to seal the deal this week, and it did not take long getting that first victory after coming very close the last couple of times out.
Morikawa T-2 at the 3M Open, and followed that with a T-4 at the John Deere Classic before his win, and more importantly from our fantasy perspective, is the massive amounts of FanDuel points (FDP) he is scoring over this stretch. Of course, there were no contests for the Barracuda, but according to Morikawa’s game log, he would have scored 148 FDP last week. Over his last three events, he is averaging an astounding 133.66 FDP per week and is another top option to build around this week.
