41. Best college football teams of all-time: 1969 Texas

Led by consensus All-American tackle Bob McKay, the Longhorns rolled over their opponents, barring an incredibly solid Arkansas team (which they beat 15-14), headed towards a perfect 11-0 season.

A total of 14 players from this team, in a time where freshmen were still unable to play at the varsity level, would go on to be drafted. Bob McKay, Leo Brooks and running back Ted Koy led the team to the perfect season, each being drafted in the first 50 picks of the following NFL Draft.

A purveyor of the fabled wishbone offense, head coach Darrell Royal and offensive coordinator Emory Bellard took down three top-ten teams on the way to a Cotton Bowl win over No. 9 Notre Dame, before being selected as the consensus national champions. The Cotton Bowl game was the Longhorns’ first bowl game in four years and only their second overall.

Football has very much grown roots in Texas and the school has since returned to prominence many times over. One thing is for sure, however, for the Longhorns, this team fits as one of their best all-time.

Though you’ll see more of them later on this list, this Texas squad will go down in history as being, by far, one of the most memorable and impactful.
