The 50 greatest college football teams throughout history
45. Best college football teams of all-time: 2013 Florida State
The 2013 edition of Jimbo Fisher’s Florida State Seminoles dominated their opponents with a historic margin of victory that saw them outscore opponents by a massive 456-105 points.
The Seminoles smashed No. 25 Maryland by a score of 63-0 in Week 5, when they were ranked as the No. 8 team. After jumping five spots to No. 5, they traveled to Clemson, South Carolina where they took down the Tigers in a blowout win by a score of 51-14. Jameis Winston starred all year for the Seminoles, as he cruised to the Heisman Trophy.
The team was also rewarded with a hard-fought win over No. 2 Auburn in the National Championship game, winning by a score of 34-31 in Pasadena.
The team would, over the next few years, send 23 players to the NFL Draft, with four of those selections coming in the first round of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 drafts. Winston went as the first overall pick in the 2015 draft, following by fellow-first round Seminoles Jalen Ramsey, Cameron Erving and Kelvin Benjamin.
This team starred on offense thanks to the dynamic attack of Winston and players like running back Devonta Freeman but also was a force on defense. Cornerbacks P.J. Williams and Lamarcus Joyner, joined up with a terrific secondary comprised of Lamarcus Joyner, Terrence Brooks and Ramsey, to give fits to offenses all season.
