MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Top GPP Pivots

Mike Minor (9.5k FD, 9.9k DK) vs. Seattle

Some may have interest in Jose Berrios at Miami, who is the second most expensive pitcher on the slate, but I don’t. While on paper that is a great spot for Berrios, I’m just not all that interested in using him on the road against a pesky Marlins team.

But I do have a lot of interest in Mike Minor, who as many of you know by now has been one of my favorite pitchers this season. Minor appears to be staying in Texas through the deadline so he should be good to go tonight against the Mariners and their dreadful 25.6% strikeout rate.

He’s scuffled a bit lately, allowing four runs in each of his last three starts, but Minor has a ton of K upside here against a Mariners team that he struck out 13 times in April and another 11 times in May. He has seen his price come down a little and he’s significantly cheaper than DeGrom with the type of upside to match or exceed DeGrom’s output in this spot.

Kyle Hendricks (8.3k FD, 9k DK) vs. St. Louis

I prefer to use Hendricks on FanDuel tonight where he is priced pretty fairly in the mid-tier. After a brief hot spell, the Cardinals are back to their woeful ways at the plate and Hendricks matches up well against their right-handed heavy lineup. He’s not going to punch out 10+ hitters, but he’s perfectly capable of pitching six strong innings here tonight. He had a great month of July and allowing two runs or less in all five starts.
