MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Gas Can of the Night

Adam Plutko (actually it’s Zach Plesac) vs. Houston Astros

Finally, a chance to rant and rave about how bad Adam Plutko is as a pitcher. Do you know how bad he is? He’s really bad! And a lot of people have no idea just how bad he is since he has managed to keep his ERA under 5 in his 10 starts this season. Wait, Plutko isn’t pitching? It’s actually Zach Pleasac and he’s pretty decent. Nevermind, Just kidding!

Rick Porcello vs. Tampa Bay Rays

So Porcello was once an AL Cy Young winner a few years ago but has really fallen off this year in his age 30 season. His ERA is over 5 as well as his xFIP and his strikeout rate has plummeted to only 17%. He’s just not missing bats that often and when hitters make contact, it’s hard contact. He’s still struggling mightily against lefties allowing a .2937average and a .359 wOBA.

He’s been progressively worse this season as his ERA in June was over 6 and his ERA in July is over 7. He faces a Tampa team that has some good lefty bats in their lineup and can make him pay for leaving pitches out over the plate. I haven’t used Porcello this year and I’ll continue to target him with stacks like I have been all season long.
