21. Charlie Brewer, Baylor

Charlie Brewer stepped in as a freshman to handle quarterback for a struggling Baylor team in 2017 and played well, with a 68.1 percent completion mark and 1,562 yards in eight games. That was enough to take him into 2018 as the starter, contributing to another quality year.

While Brewer did not hit his target as much, he still topped 3,000 passing yards, had a cool 19 touchdowns to nine interceptions and seven rushing touchdowns. He even helped the Bears to a bowl game, which they were far from the season before.

With experience on his side, Brewer will look for improvement as a junior in 2019. He has an older Baylor team around him that could play well in the middle of the Big 12 pack, and, potentially, finding an upset win somewhere in-between.

Moving into the conversation of the best quarterbacks in the conference should be Brewer’s other goal. Kyler Murray left for the NFL, but Jalen Hurts took his place in Oklahoma, and Sam Ehlinger is back for Texas. Texas Tech’s Alan Bowman could make it interesting, as well, so this is a crowded group.

Brewer has Denzel Mims back, though, which should work wonders for the Baylor offense this season. That pairing will be the focal point, and if the third-year slinger finds his target often enough, this may become one of the Big 12’s best duos.
