24. Alan Bowman, Texas Tech

When does Texas Tech not have an air-raid offense? From Mike Leach to Kliff Kingsbury, offenses of the past decade have featured all-out passing attacks that made the quarterbacks look great and made these groups among the best in college football.

For eight games in 2018, Alan Bowman looked like that next quarterback. He entered as a freshman, taking over a spot once held by Patrick Mahomes, who dazzled in his first full year starting with the Kansas City Chiefs. It led to 2,638 yards and 17 touchdowns, including a game of 605 yards and five touchdowns and 408 yards and three touchdowns.

Even against Oklahoma in November, Bowman had an 80.8 completion percentage in a 26-21 loss.

However, injuries impacted the young signal-caller. He missed a chunk of October and games in November, ending his season early. It limited just how much further his freshman campaign could have gone, but the upside remains high.

Bowman, under a new head coach, can continue this success and work his way into the Big 12’s statistical leaders. Finding overall team improvement will be difficult, as the Sooners and Texas still dominate this conference. Schools below them have questions, though, so under new guidance and a full, healthy season, perhaps the Red Raiders rise.
