Fantasy Football: Rounds 7-9 Breakdown

My Picks:

7.78: Russell Wilson | QB | SEA

8.91: David Njoku | TE | CLE

9.102: Sterling Shepard | WR | NYG

Fantasy Football Analysis:

With 4 quarterbacks getting drafted in the last round and a half, this is the point in the draft where you either succumb to the positional run or wait it out and draft the position late while building depth elsewhere.

In this case, I couldn’t pass up on Russell Wilson given the fact that he has overall QB1 upside. While he saw a massive dip in pass attempts last season, the addition of freak athlete D.K. Metcalf gives him added deep-ball potential that he only really had in Tyler Lockett last season.

On top of that, he comes with massive rushing upside and the 6th easiest strength of schedule at the position (per FantasyPros).

Much like the quarterback position, this is a point in the draft where if you missed out on a top tier tight end, you’re stuck in a bit of purgatory. I was targeting Jared Cook in this round, but he was snatched up during the back-end of round 7, so I resorted to David Njoku.

He was the #7 tight end in the league last year in targets (89) and had at least 6 targets in 8 of his 16 games last year. For a mid-to-late round pick, that’s the volume you’ll take at such a thin position.

My ninth-round pick raised a few question-marks, but hear me out. It was reported last week that Sterling Shepard will not need surgery on what was thought to be a fractured thumb, raising a ton of optimism for his week 1 availability.

On top of that, fellow wide-outs Corey Coleman (torn ACL) and Golden Tate (suspension appeal) are on the shelf for week 1 at the least. The Giants have absolutely zero depth and the volume has to go somewhere, so why not take advantage of the dropping ADP?

Priority players that were sniped: Round 7 – Drew Brees (4 picks ahead of Russell Wilson), Round 9 – Larry Fitzgerald (3 picks ahead of Sterling Shepard), Devin Funchess (1 pick ahead of Sterling Shepard)
