Fantasy Football Mock Draft: 2019 FanSided pick 9 breakdown
Fantasy Football Mock Draft Pick 9: Rounds 7-9
Needless to say, running back thinned out fast. I once again got sniped by a few picks since I had Saints running back Latavius Murray firmly in my sights, to see him go just two picks before me. Now the choices for a back are Lamar Miller(ugh), Royce Freeman, Jordan Howard(both thought about heavily) and Darrell Henderson, rookie for the Rams.
I though Henderson would slip to round eight, so I swiped Panthers receiver Curtis Samuel. He’s a popular pick right now and his play-making ability might be flying under the radar.
The plan worked perfectly until Henderson went 2 picks before me(noticing a trend here?) and this is where I’m at least having a twinge of regret for going quarterback earlier than I ever do in a one quarterback league. I don’t want to go another 20 some picks without a back, so instead of the others I went Rashaad Penny of the Seahawks.
It might seem curious to sink two picks this early into two backs for the same team, but remember how much Seattle ran the ball last year.
Mike Davis left for Chicago, leaving behind 112 rushing attempts and an 11.4 percent target share. It stands to reason that Penny should inherit the vast majority of that role, which would push him to about 175 carries and 50 receptions. If that happened, Penny is easily a weekly flex and both can be playable.
With running back really cleaned out at this point and it being PPR, I went receiver again with Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup. He had a typical rookie season that was uneven, but finished with back to back 50 yard games in the regular season and then went off in the second playoff game for a 6/119/0 game.
The Dallas offense is evolving with the dismissal of former offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. New OC Kellan Moore is already discussing opening up the offense and Gallup is a top 85 pick in the draft. It’s at the point where chances are being taken.
