Fantasy Football Mock Draft Pick 9: Rounds 13-15

If there’s one thing owe have learned over the past few years, it’s the role of “Pittsburgh Steelers starting running back” is one of the more consistent fantasy assets in the game. Do I buy that Jaylen Samuels is going to share the workload with starter James Conner?

Not at all, because that goes against the grain for coach Mike Tomlin. However, running backs is the most volatile position in fantasy. Things happen and if Conner misses time, Samuels should be a top 15-20 back, at worse. In round 13 with defenses going off the board, it’s worth the shot.

The last two picks are just reserved for lottery tickets. I firmly believe that tight end Mike Gesicki is a complete athletic freak and trying to get him to block is silly. The reports of him struggling to block just seem like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. With tight end being thin, I’m wiling to take the upside that I think is there.

With my final pick, this is a theory pick. If your league doesn’t require it and you’re not within a week of the season starting, don’t take defenses and/or kickers. Take a running back like Giovani Bernard of the Bengals.

If Joe Mixon goes down in camp or during the preseason games, the rush to waivers for Bernard would be crazy. If he’s already on your bench, you win. You can easily pick up a kicker the day before Week 1 starts and there’s no reason to not stream defenses through the season.
