MLB DFS Pitching Plays

Steven Matz – Matz holds an 4.63 xFIP, 21.4% K rate, 47.4% GB, and 40% HC. Now he gets a rematch with the Pirates, and if you look back Steve pitched a complete game shutout, racking up 58 FD points.

We all know that Pittsburgh can struggle in a big way against LHP, and Matz will also be pitching at a pitchers ballpark in PIT that suppresses power against RHH. He will see more righties, where his numbers are virtually identical compares to LHH. Slightly higher K rate at 21.7%, great GB numbers, and decent HC.

Pitch Mix – We will focus on RHH, and Matz has a very wide range of pitches he uses. He has been dropping the sinker usage throughout the year, now sitting at 37%, increasing the slider usage all the way up to 21%, change 26%, and curve 14%. That slider isn’t getting many whiffs, but it is getting great GB at 81%.

The curve gets 60%, with the change, and sinker getting around 40%. His change gets decent whiffs around 35%, and hopefully, he uses it a good bit since PIT isn’t good against it. Matz gets great horizontal movement on his change, and sinker as well. I really like this price tag on him as well, and he is one of the top options on this slate.
