FanSided Fantasy Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Rounds 4-5

4.06 Julian Edelman, New England Patriots (WR3)

After selecting Amari Cooper, my hope was to land either Josh Jacobs or Leonard Fournette. It wasn’t looking too bad until Jacobs was selected the pick before me. After this tier of running backs, there is a major drop-off.

With both wide receiver spots filled, I did have two holes in my flex. I ended up giving the slight edge to Julian Edelman over Kenny Golladay. Both wide-outs are the number one option on their respective offense, but Edelman seemed safer.

Does the age scare me? Absolutely. Edelman will be playing the 2019 season at 33 years old. The only reason I’m willing to look past this is because of his expected target share. With the retirement of Rob Gronkowski, Edelman should emerge as Tom Brady’s go-to guy.

Not that he hasn’t been in the past, but no Gronkowski should propel Edelman to another level. Last season in 12 games, Edelman saw 10+ targets in six of them. This could very well become the norm in New England.

First-round draft pick, N’Keal Harry looks to be Edelman’s biggest threat, but we never know what to expect from a rookie.

5.07 Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts (QB1)

Considering taking Luck in the fourth round, this was an absolute no-brainer for me at the back end of the fifth. Patrick Mahomes went at the end of the second round (2.12) and Luck was the next QB off the board here. Again, I didn’t want to reach for a running back. There were names like Sony Michel, Chris Carson and Derrius Guice available, but I’m not very high on any of them.

I currently have Luck as my top-ranked quarterback. He is surrounded with play-makers at every position with some new pieces as well. The Colts added wide receiver Devin Funchess in free agency, drafted Paris Campbell and are returning tight end, Jack Doyle.

Not to mention T.Y. Hilton, Eric Ebron, and Nyheim Hines. This offense is absolutely loaded and Luck is the best way to get some exposure to it. Our draft occurred before the Luck news, however, it is a situation that has to be monitored throughout camp.
