Fantasy Football Mock Draft Pick 10: Rounds 4-6

Round 4, pick 39: Devonta Freeman

I’ll be honest…I’m not thrilled with my performance here during these rounds. I think these as well as the next few really make or break your draft. You’re getting the meat of your lineups here whether you like it or not since the pre-draft studs are gone now.

I really didn’t manage to get any guys I’m terribly high on here unfortunately. However, I will say that I am happy with this pick in the 4th round of Devonta Freeman.

Last year in my home league, his injury situation just about ruined my entire season since I drafted him so high but I managed to pull out the trophy in the end. A home league is obviously different than an FFPC league but don’t let that fool you – my buddies know what they’re doing.

All of that said, I think a guy like this who was getting drafted so highly last year and who has an arguably better situation this year with no Coleman around seems like excellent value in the fourth.

Round 5, pick 58: Tarik Cohen

This is where things start to derail a bit (but maybe not, we’ll see). Word around Chicago seems to be they love David Montgomery but I just cannot fathom a situation where you aren’t trying to get the ball into this firecrackers hands as much as possible.

Those of you who have been around for awhile may understand the comp here but the closest thing I can think of for Tarik is peak Darren Sproles. If I can get peak Darren Sproles in the 5th round, I’m going to be thrilled.

He’s going to be primarily used as pass catcher so bonus points basically in the PPR format and like I said, I really think they’re going to try and get him the ball a lot. He’s too explosive not to. Last year he had 8 rushing/receiving touchdowns and he caught 71 balls.

The reason I’m somewhat down on this pick is that I do not care for taking guys in a committee in the 5th round. That’s a bit early for me but Chris Carson got sniped right before me here and there had been quite a run on running backs. My thought was to secure some depth while I could and I never like taking any part of the New England backfield so Sony Michel was a no go for me.

Round 6, pick 63: Tyler Boyd –

I’m probably overvaluing this guy a bit with the news of AJ Green fresh in my head and him being a large part in why I won my FFPC league last year. He really NEEDS to be a number 2 wide receiver though meaning I don’t think the Green injury actually helps him that much.

I think he would be better served getting coverage from lesser corners rather than having to jump into that main pass catcher position. That being said, Green was hurt for a lot of last year and Boyd managed to pull in over 1000 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns.

That’s good production from someone in the 6th round in my book. Now I’m sitting at three running backs, three wide receivers and feeling nice and balanced going into the next portion of the draft. Recap of the team below.
