Fantasy football quarterback tiers 2019
Fantasy Football Quarterback – Tier Three
Dan
Carson Wentz –I would have no problem putting Wentz in tier two based on talent and stats alone but I just need to see him play a full season and be healthy first. He’s easily the best of my tier three quarterbacks here and it’s a reasonable argument to have him higher.
Once I see what Miles Sanders brings to their backfield and how Wentz is looking health wise, he could end up being a steal in this tier.
Jameis Winston – I think Jameis is going to have a really great year. I’ve always been a believer in the talent there but he just hasn’t been able to build up a solid relationship with a lasting coaching staff.
If they can get it together and not turn the ball over, I see Jameis crushing it this year with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, two of my favorite wide receivers to target. It stands to reason if I believe in the weapons having good years, the guy feeding them the ball is likely to have a pretty good year too.
Phillip Rivers – Felipe Rios is ready to have another kid…I mean…have another solid fantasy season and be drafted REALLY late. My strategy the last two years has been to just sit back and take skill position talent in the mid to late rounds.
I would watch as others picked up their quarterbacks a bit too high with good wide receivers and running backs still available. Eventually a guy like Rivers (or maybe Big Ben) would still be sitting there ready to give me 300 points on the season.
Joe
Matt Ryan – He has the most fantasy points amongst quarterbacks over the last three seasons and was able to limit his interceptions to only 7 last season. He and Julio Jones rediscovered their mutual love for the end-zone together and if he can continue to look his way, he should see a similarly productive season in 2019.
Cam Newton – The rushing upside here has subsided a bit with the emergence of Christian McCaffrey, but the fact that all signs are pointing to a full recovery from his off-season shoulder surgery mean that we may see a passing ceiling from Cam that we haven’t seen in a handful of years.
He also welcomes Torrey Smith and Chris Hogan to the team alongside sophomore receiver DJ Moore and a healthy Greg Olson, so he does have ample opportunity in the passing game as well.
Jameis Winston – The emergence of Chris Godwin, return of O.J. Howard and the reliability of Mike Evans in the passing game, it’s hard to imagine Winston having a down year.
Couple in the fact that there is a heap of uncertainty in the backfield (Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones) and an atrocious defense on the other side of the ball, Winston could be airing it out a ton under new coach Bruce Arians.
Thunder Dan
Jared Goff – Goff has weapons all around him and a brilliant offense coach. He should take another step forward in his development this year and I think the Rams end up passing the ball more with teams keying on stopping Gurley and the run game.
Baker Mayfield – I don’t have Baker quite as high as some others, but he certainly is primed for a big year with the receivers he has at his disposal and some good experience from last season. I have no problem taking him in the middle rounds, I am just still a tad skeptical.
Jameis Winston – I’ve never been much of a Jameis fan, but if he is going to thrive in the NFL it should be in this new system with Leftwich as his coordinator and Arians as his coach. He has a nice group of receivers to throw to.
Adam
Drew Brees – Before you yell at me, just look at Brees and the home/road splits. On the road last year, he averaged 217.6 yards and threw 11 touchdowns in those eight games. He killed you half the season, flat out.
Russell Wilson – I was not so secretly hoping for a trade for Wilson since he’s in an offense that runs the ball so much.
We all call for the Mahomes regression from a touchdown rate over 8 percent, and we should. Wilson was at 8.2 percent last year and that got him to a career high 35 touchdown passes.
Lamar Jackson – Part one of the new guard, Jackson has the cheat code we should all want in quarterbacks – rushing. Not only that, any report from camp is raving about his throwing ability.
Kyler Murray – Murray is a mystery but in an Air Raid offense that is going to play at warp speed and accentuate his rushing ability(over 1,000 yards last year at Oklahoma), he can reach the top 10 this season.
Dak Prescott – He’s never been outside the top 12 quarterbacks in his career, has had a full off-season to work with receiver Amari Cooper and an offensive coordinator that wants to open it up. Prescott is such a great value this year.
Jared Goff – Any quarterback hooked into the Sean McVay system is going to be productive.
