Fantasy football quarterback tiers 2019
Fantasy Football Quarterback – Tier Four
Dan
Cam Newton – I will never not love Cam Newton. Yes his outfits and attitude can be horrible but if he’s throwing the ball with some zip and accuracy, he has MVP potential.
I think they’re probably going to use McCaffrey a lot more in red zone and goal line situations so Cam’s rushing touchdown potential is likely down a smidge this year but it’s still a lot higher than most quarterbacks. That’s what keeps him on my draft board.
Lamar Jackson – Another guy who is going to run the ball a ton which gives you major upside at the quarterback position. In my sleepers and values article, I touched on how Lamar Jackson actually averaged 17 rushing attempts a game to close out the season. That’s insane. The extra two points from rushing a touchdown in versus passing it can be all the difference you need to win a week.
Jared Goff – I’m actually higher on the talent of Wentz than I am Goff which I don’t think is much of a hot take. However, Goff is in a better situation with an unbelievable set of weapons around him. Even if Gurley isn’t super healthy, they still have a proven offensive line and excellent rushing attack.
Add in the fact he has Cooks, Woods, and Kupp coming back healthy, that offense is going to put up crazy points. Goff has to have a good year as a byproduct of that almost by default so he’s certainly safe to draft late.
Joe
Jared Goff – I was a huge advocate for Goff last season and even after his questionable performances during the fantasy playoffs last season, I’m right back on board.
With Todd Gurley’s role shifting from workhorse back more to a timeshare due to his ongoing knee issues, we could see a ton more pass attempts from Goff into the reliable hands of Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods. Take his results last year and increase the volume and his ceiling is higher than most realize.
Kyler Murray – Rookie quarterbacks are tough to peg, but Murray steps into Arizona with no threat to his job and a coach that has been quoted saying he wants to run at least 70 plays per game. He has the sure-handed Larry Fitzgerald, a receiving back in David Johnson and deep-threat Christian Kirk all working in his favor for what should be a successful rookie campaign.
Russell Wilson – It’s not often you can find top-5 QB upside with such a low ADP, but the loss of Doug Baldwin and decrease in volume last year has crushed the ADP of Wilson this season.
He finished as the QB9 last season and for the first time in years, finished without a single rushing touchdown. Add in rookie phenom D.K. Metcalf and hopefully some positive regression in the rushing touchdown department and I see no way that Wilson doesn’t at least match that QB9 rank.
Thunder Dan
Cam Newton – Cam is going to do what Cam does – run for a bunch of yards and TDs but also throw double digit INTs.
With the way that Carolina schemed last year, I don’t see a huge ceiling for Cam as they seem content to run the ball with McCaffrey and feature him in the short passing game. As Cam gets older we also have to worry about his durability as he takes a ton of hits.
Jimmy Garoppolo – Jimmy G is my favorite “sleeper” pick although he’s already becoming a trendy pick among many touts in the industry. Hopefully we get a full season from him and we can see what he’s capable of doing with his talented receiving corps of Pettis, Kittle, and Goodwin.
Josh Allen – This is more of a true “sleeper” as I haven’t seen all that many people touting Josh Allen this preseason. He’s an excellent runner and is developing as a passer. I think he surprises a lot of people and ends up in the top half of QBs in fantasy points this season when it’s all said and done.

Adam
Jameis Winston – If new coach Bruce Arians can figure out how to get Winston to stop turning the ball over so much, he’s likely at least one tier too low. I just need to see that before I believe it but the receiving duo of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin should be among the leagues best pair.
Phillip Rivers – You can almost always bank on Rivers being available late and being productive in your lineup. Getting Hunter Henry back to pair up with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams makes life easier for the wily vet.
Josh Allen – You can make jokes about the passing game with just 2,074 passing yards in 11 games and more interceptions than touchdowns. However, the rushing production of 52.6 yards per game was a free touchdown every game. Allen is an incredible athlete and any improvement in the passing game vaults him up.
Kirk Cousins – For all the criticism the first year Viking took from last year, he still threw 30 touchdowns, almost 4,300 yards and only 10 interceptions. He was still a top 10 option last year.
Jimmy Garoppolo – Upside beckons with Kyle Shanahan as the coach and an emerging corps of weapons in George Kittle, Dante Pettis, Trent Taylor, Deebo Samuel and Marquise Goodwin.
