Safety. Grant Delpit. 817. 8. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Junior

Whether the team is a contender or not, the LSU Tigers always seem to have that one player that demands attention. There was Leonard Fournette, Tyrann Mathieu, Patrick Peterson, JaMarcus Russell. Devin White and Greedy Williams more recently. They always had that one player who was must-see TV. This year it’s Grant Delpit.

Playing safety, Delpit doesn’t possess the same game-control others on this list do, but he can still dictate how it’s played. And at 6-foot-3, he provides the Tigers with a versatility not seen at the collegiate level often.

Not only can he line up at multiple positions (in the slot, over the top, in the box), Delpit contributes from each level, too. He defended the pass well (five interceptions, nine pass deflections), made routine tackles (74 total stops, 46 solo) and caused havoc in the backfield (9.5 tackles-for-loss, five sacks) on his way to being named a unanimous All-American in 2018.

Delpit will don the coveted No. 7 jersey at LSU this upcoming season, previously worn by and passed down by greats Peterson, Mathieu, and Fournette. Will Delpit be able to follow along in their footsteps?

Playing alongside stars like White and Williams didn’t hurt, but Delpit will have an opportunity in 2019 to prove he’s more than just a cog in the machine that is LSU football. The Tigers open the season as host to Georgia Southern on August 31.
