Fantasy Football – FanSided Mock Draft: Rounds 7-9

7 – (75) – WR – Dante Pettis – San Francisco 49ers

Alright no more messing around… I NEED a wide receiver at this point as I still have only two at this point. Thankfully there are about three or four guys I like in this range, and Dante Pettis is at the top of that list, as he looks to be in for a big sophomore season if this offense can take some positive strides with Jimmy Garoppolo behind center.

Pettis is a speed guy, drafted in the second round last season out of Washington, and is the one guy in the 49ers receiving corps other than tight end George Kittle who I am targeting this season.

Rookie Deebo Samuel is worth a flyer at the end of your draft, but it looks like at this point Marquise Goodwin is becoming the odd man out. I am a little nervous about Pettis being my third receiver on this squad with Evans and Anderson, but not being able to pass on Gurley in the third round was bound to catch up with me somewhere.

8 – (94) – QB – Jameis Winston – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

This may appear to be a bit of a reach for Winston considering it is the eighth round, but it actually wasn’t. Surprisingly, 11 quarterbacks were off the board at this point, as Matt Ryan and Kyler Murray were both selected with the two picks right before my pick.

I obviously did not go into this draft with the plan of having Jameis Winston as my number one quarterback, but after I drafted Mike Evans in the second and paired him up with Howard, my focus clearly shifted to completing this stack.

Winston appears to be regressing a bit numbers-wise, but after playing all sixteen games in his first two seasons as a pro, he missed eight games total over his last two years. Five of those came from ineffectiveness last season, as he was benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

As he enters his fifth year, you would have to think if he cannot get it done this season it will be time for the Bucs to move on. However, Fitzpatrick is gone, and Blaine Gabbert looks to be option number two if Winston fails once again. My guess is they will be playing catch-up all season long, and my thought is that Winston could shine in garbage time multiple times this year if he can keep his job.

9 – (99) – WR – Larry Fitzgerald – Arizona Cardinals

As I posted in the draft chat right before I made the selection, this one goes out to all the old men out there. Fitzgerald is ageless, entering his 16 NFL season.

I have followed his career closely as a huge fan of his coming out high school here at Academy of Holy Angels here in Minnesota, as we really do not have a ton of NFL prospects come out of our state. Of course, he went on to succeed at Pitt, and develop into the third overall pick by Arizona in 2004, where he has spent his entire career.

While his production took a massive hit last season, I 100% believe that was due to bad quarterback play more than anything else. I am not completely sold on this Kyler Murray / Kliff Kingsbury revolution people seem to be buying into, but if they do have success, I think Fitzy has a legitimate chance at another 100 catch season.

He is 35-years-old, but his durability has never been a question as he has missed just two games since 2008. If the Cardinals offense is as good as some believe it will be, this pick may have saved my wide receiver corps.
