MLB DFS Pitching Plays

Gerrit Cole – Cole will be pitching on this early set of games, and he draws the Rockies away from the ever so friendly Coors Field. He should see more LHH in this spot, and he actually has a higher K rate to that side at 39%, but he does have a slightly higher ISO, and gets less GB at 38.8%, and slightly more HC at 36%.

One positive thing is that Dahl is currently on the IL, so Blackmon is the only major power threat from that side of that plate.

Pitch Mix – We will focus on Cole’s pitch mix from the left side of the plate. He is very fastball heavy at slightly over 50%, mixing in the curve, slider, and change. That fastball gets amazing whiffs over 40% of the time, with the slider, and curve over 50%, and a change at 44%.

In July all four pitches got over 40% GB as well. Cole has the best fastball in all of the MLB, on average clocking in at almost 98 MPH, moving over ten inches vertically. It is a virtually impossible to hit, hence the very high whiff rate for a fastball.

He also will get plenty of strikes looking as well, which isn’t calculated here. Overall Cole is the best play on the entire day, and should be in most of your early lineups.
