MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Draftkings SP2s

Nestor Cortes Jr. (4k) @ Baltimore

I’m not sure yet if Cortes is going to become chalk, but it certainly seems possible that he could considering the fact that there aren’t many attractive cheap options on this slate.

Cortes is the projected reliever for the Yankees, who have decided to use their bullpen arms today and skip J.A. Happ‘s turn in the rotation.

Cortes is a crafty lefty who uses a number of arm angles and off-speed pitches to keep hitters off-balance. He probably won’t pitch that long tonight and his season-high is 5 innings, but at his price, all we really need is 3-4 relatively clean innings with a few strikeouts.

He has been pitching in relief with the Yankees but had been starting while down at AAA and has pitched as many as 7 innings in a game this year.

While I don’t expect him to go deep, he certainly could be asked to pitch as many innings as he can handle, especially if he is pitching well. The Orioles are one team that hasn’t seen him yet this season so his funky delivery and off-speed pitches may be hard for them to adjust to tonight.
