Adrian Martinez is the real deal

Frost is a big reason so many fans and outside pundits are starting to believe in this program but the other major reason is Adrian Martinez, the rising sophomore who some view as an outside contender for the Heisman.

Martinez was spectacular as a freshman, completing better than 64 percent of his passes for 2,617 yards to go along with 17 touchdown passes and eight interceptions. He also ran for eight touchdowns and 629 yards, with an average of over four yards per attempt, even with sacks.

While the Huskers missed a bowl game last year, if Martinez didn’t miss part of the Colorado game and the game against Troy, the Huskers would have likely gone 6-6. But now after an offseason of growth and development, Martinez could be as good as any quarterback in the Big Ten.

Nebraska football has also added some key weapons such as incoming freshman Wandale Robinson to assist in getting Frost’s offense up to speed. But if you have an elite head coach and an elite quarterback, you are going to have a shot. And if Martinez takes that next step this season, the Huskers will have a great formula for success.
