The schedule gives Nebraska a great shot

Even though the Huskers were 4-8 last season, they went 3-1 at home in Big Ten play, including wins in their last three games over Minnesota, Illinois and Michigan State.

Obviously, those aren’t necessarily Big Ten powers, but it was a sign of progress and if Nebraska can carry over its winning ways at home this season, it should have a legitimate shot of winning the West division.

The three top contenders outside of Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and defending champ Northwestern, all come to Lincoln Memorial Stadium. Ohio State does too.

Since the Huskers played only four conference home games last season, this year, they will get five, which is another plus. And on top of that, the road games are very manageable. Nebraska will play at Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue and Maryland.

Both the Boilermakers and Minnesota could enter the mix in the West this season too and those will be pivotal games in the Big Ten race, but the most difficult games Nebraska football will face in 2019 are at home.

That and for all the other reasons, mainly Frost, Martinez and better depth, should give this team a chance to re-emerge as a Big Ten title contender this season.
