City vs. United

In a league that features seven top derbies spread out across England, the best one may very well be the one between the league’s two Manchester clubs. The Manchester derby will be played on December 7 at City and March 7 at United.

City has won back-to-back league titles (for a total of 198 points combined), while United last captured the Premier League crown in 2013.

For City, midfield duo Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva were largely responsible for the club’s success the past two seasons. While they would love to get their hands on the Champions League trophy, attempting to win a third consecutive league title is something that would solidify Manchester City as one of the best clubs in the world.

How the team can do that remains to be seen. This season is expected to see a record number of contenders, including Chelsea and Arsenal.

“You don’t need to be better, you need to be consistent,” De Bruyne said when asked what it will take to win another league title in 2020. “At the end of the year, with all the competitions, maybe you don’t need 95 or 100 points. Maybe teams get more points out of each other and you win it with 85, just because the competition is that high. You don’t know.”

The Belgium international added: “Maybe we need 102 points to win [the league]. I cannot predict that. We’ll see in the end. But you need to be consistent.”
