FanSided Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Pick Eight breakdown

Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Round Four
Targets
Full disclosure, I have participated in at least 30 combined drafts and mock drafts so far this season. Due to this I know exactly what players I am targeting in the fourth, and even in the fifth round.
They are rookie running backs Josh Jacobs and David Montgomery. Rookies are often underappreciated even in early August, and they are tremendous values in the fourth relative to where I have them ranked and have them projected to finish in fantasy value among running backs.
There have been times where one or both have been off of the board by the time my fourth round pick comes around, but being in the 8th slot means I have an early 4th round pick.
Available players
Josh Jacobs, David Montgomery, Brandin Cooks, Kenny Golladay
Selection
Brandin Cooks still being on the board in the fourth round made me pause. He is the 4.04 based on ADP, but is not someone I have typically seen still on the board in the fourth round. Kenny Golladay is also someone I have drafted in the fourth round of previous drafts and was a strong consideration here.
However, the lack of high end running back talent in 2019 made it clear that I would be best off going running back in round four.
With Josh Jacobs and David Montgomery still on the board, I chose Josh Jacobs. I like Montgomery more but am fully aware that Jacobs is the one that is drafted first in 90 percent of redrafts. In fact his ADP suggests he has been drafted as early as 2.05.
The gamble here is that Montgomery will hopefully still be on the board when round five comes around. With three stud running backs now on the roster, I am free to worry less about positions and to focus solely on the best player available.
Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Round Five
Targets
As mentioned above, I have one round five target and that is David Montgomery. Arguably the most talented running back in the 2019 draft class, Montgomery seems set to soak up the 277 touches the pedestrian Jordan Howard saw last season. He is a fantastic get in the fifth round and was my sole focus as I watched the draft board.
Available players
Chris Carson, Tarik Cohen, Derrius Guice, O.J. Howard, Tevin Coleman
Selection
With David Montgomery off of the board I was reeling. With no wide receivers worth targeting in the fifth round I had to decide between Derrius Guice and O.J. Howard. Guice is a bit of a reach in the fifth as I have seen him last until the seventh round in some drafts.
His current ADP is 7.02, but at some points of the draft you have to rely on your cheat sheets as opposed to drafting based on ADP values.
Guice is someone I have ranked as a borderline top-15 running back and have much higher than the other available players listed above. Guice is a reach based on current ADP, but was the 5.03 in May.
Since I was participating in a league with other fantasy experts I chose to eschew current ADP in favor of ADP from a time when only the most hardcore owners were drafting. Yes, Guice popped up with a hamstring issue but a two round drop because of it means a prudent owner can now steal Washington’s lead back.
Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Round Six
Targets
Round six is right about the time where I become formless and shapeless. I am reacting to the draft board and selecting the best player available. I have no specific target in mind, but with four running backs already on the roster, the wide receiver position will be given priority.
This does not mean that I will avoid glaring value at running back however. The goal here is to be fluid and target the best player available.
Available players
Alshon Jeffery, Tevin Coleman, OJ Howard, Corey Davis, Dante Pettis, N’Keal Harry
Selection
This was the first tough decision of the draft. There were some names I would be comfortable drafting in the sixth round, but only one stood out as a true value. Jeffery had the highest floor of the available players listed above and thus was the pick.
He managed only a 15.8 percent share of the targets in 2018, but that amounted to 92 targets in 13 games. His extrapolated pace would have put him at 113 targets at 7.07 targets per game. That number would have resulted in a solid 18.8 percent target share.
Despite some great additions to the wide receiver corps, I expect this number to be closer to 20 percent this season.
