EPL DFS Breakdown – Saturday 8/10/2019

EPL DFS Top-Tier Forwards/Midfielders
Harry Kane (Aston Villa @ Tottenham, $24) – This slate is set up for Harry Kane to be massive chalk, but rightly so. He’s been one of the best goal scorers in the EPL in recent years, and there aren’t many true studs on the slate aside from him.
His opponent Aston Villa will be playing in their first EPL game since 2016. Despite being in the middle of the pack for goals allowed last season in the Championship (13th out of 24), Villa finished 5th and won the promotion playoff.
Kane has proven he can score with the best of the best in the EPL, so this matchup with a newly promoted team is one where you want to pay up for Kane. He has the best anytime scoring odds on the slate and is a top priority in all formats.
Christian Eriksen (Aston Villa @ Tottenham, $18) – Eriksen will be a popular player to stack with Kane, but Lucas Moura ($16) might be the smarter play. Fading Kane’s low floor high ceiling in favor of getting 2 safer floors with Eriksen and Moura is a GPP strategy that I like.
Paying for this duo instead of Kane allows you more exposure to Tottenham’s attack on a slate where that will be the priority. Moura ended last season on fire in both the EPL and the UCL. Another productive season for him is likely. With Alli and Son out, he’ll have a little more responsibility in Tottenham’s attack for a few weeks and I’m all in on taking advantage of that.
Gerard Deulofeu (Brighton @ Watford, $18) – Some will think Deulofeu is a top pivot off Tottenham, but I would caution you on taking that route. Sure, he’s playing at home against a Brighton team that gave up a lot of goals last year and will probably do the same this year.
He has a tendency for big games (5 30+ performances last year) but also disappears for games at a time (14 single digit performances last year). This is a lot to pay for a risky boom-or-bust forward.
Something else that adds to his risk on Saturday is the fact that he is still just returning from a leg injury and might not play a full 90 minutes this early in the season. His counterpart Troy Deeney ($14) has a safer floor due to his peripherals and popped off for 30+ point games 4 times on his own last season. If you really want the Watford exposure, save $4 and go Deeney over Deulofeu.
