EPL DFS Top-Tier Defenders
Lucas Digne (Everton @ Crystal Palace, $20) – If you have the money to pay up for a defender, it should be Digne no doubt. He appeared many times in the EPL DFS Breakdowns last season, and he probably will again this year.
He’s one of the best attacking defenders in the league, which is great for FanDuel. From the beginning of March until the end of last season, he went for 20+ fantasy points 8/10 times. He gets a lot of his points by creating chances but is also above average at collecting defensive stats. I don’t love this matchup for him, but it isn’t “bad” enough for me to fade.
Nathan Ake (Sheffield United @ Bournemouth, $16) – If you can’t find the extra $4 for Digne but still want a top defender, check out Ake. He’s less of an attacking threat than Digne and isn’t quite as consistent, but he has big potential just through his defensive stats.
I give the edge to Ake over Shane Duffy ($16) as my second favorite defender due to Bournemouth being more likely to get a clean sheet.
Jan Bednarek (Southampton @ Burnley, $16) – If you followed my articles last season, you probably remember a lot of Southampton defenders getting written up. That’s because basically whoever they started was bound to get 3x value.
Bednarek will most likely be their top scoring defender, but he’ll also cost you the most. Guys like Jannik Vestergaard ($14) and Maya Yoshida ($14) are in consideration for me as well.
