Running Back Tiers: Tier Four – Part 2
Thunder Dan
Aaron Jones – Some injuries concerns but was solid last year when he got the chance.
Josh Jacobs – Always wonder about a rookie being a feature back, but he has a great pedigree. I just wonder if Oakland’s O-line opens enough holes.
Sony Michel – He’s super sneaky this late. Sure there will be weeks that James White ends up outscoring him if the Pats have to pass, but there will also be 3 touchdown weeks when they get up early on opponents and grind them into submission.
Damian Williams – Some injury concerns here in the preseason, but slated to have a major role in Andy Reid’s offense. Reid’s top back almost always produces big stats.
Mark Ingram – A fresh start in Baltimore and a chance to be the main ball carrier, but I still can’t get that excited about him as we haven’t seen him flash much of a ceiling and he still has fumbling issues.
Lamar Miller – I bumped Miller up to the fourth tier after Foreman was released but now with Duke Johnson’s arrival there will be questions surrounding his role again. Still worth a shot in the middle rounds of drafts as he should get first crack at being the guy in Houston.
Kenyan Drake – Ballage is getting a lot of preseason hype, but Drake is still my favorite Miami back. He’s going to get his chance to win this job.
Adam
James White – If this is full PPR, White is at the third Tier and I’m happy to treat him as a top 20 option. Josh Gordon isn’t back yet(if at all), Chris Hogan and Rob Gronkowski are all departed from this offense. That’s a 36 percent chunk of the target share.
Leonard Fournette – Fournette had a miserable season last year, and someone always is willing to take him ahead of me.
Josh Jacobs – The opportunity is there for the taking for the rookie out in Oakland.
Derrick Henry – I have concerns about a back that had four good games last year and 33 career receptions. If he doesn’t find the end zone, you’re in trouble.
Sony Michel – He should get most of the goal line work and the Patriots offense should still have plenty of chances in close.
Latavius Murray – When the head coach is saying that the split will be similar this year like it was when Mark Ingram was still there, it’s wise to listen and pluck Murray onto your team.
Phillip Lindsay/Royce Freeman – I think the roles are going to be closer than the split was last year. Lindsay had more carries with a 192-130 advantage, but the 300 or so rushing attempts could be split closer to down the middle. If that’s the case, I’ll take Freeman a couple rounds later.
Lamar Miller – I think Duke Johnson might actually push him for the overall job in Houston. For now, Miller has the main role but he’s never had any sizzle. He’s the starting back that nobody really wants.
Kenyan Drake – He’ll fall lower if we see that he’s really going to posit work with Kalen Ballage. This would not be the first coaching staff to not give him the work everyone wants to see.
