WWE SummerSlam 2019: Preview and predictions

Trish Stratus vs. Charlotte Flair
In what is being billed as a dream matchup, WWE Hall of Famer and seven-time Women’s Champion Trish Stratus will perform in front of her hometown crowd against the only woman in WWE to ever hold more championships than she has, Charlotte Flair. Flair is a record nine-time champion and it was pretty amazing to see these two in the ring together leading up to this match. These women were both part of a movement to elevate the women’s division, even if it was a generation apart, and this is going to be fun.
Even at 43, Trish looks to be in tremendous shape and while she may not quite be able to keep up, Flair is good enough to carry the load when Stratus can’t. Yes, Trish is taking up a spot on the show that could’ve gone to someone on the roster but we know what happens at these bigger shows. It’s in Toronto and Trish is from there and Charlotte didn’t have much else going so this makes a ton of sense and gives us a nice moment between two greats.
Prediction: The rule is that you usually lose in your hometown and there really is no benefit to Trish winning anyway so the easy call here is Charlotte Flair. Plus, the promos from her after beating a legend and Hall of Famer will be gold.
Goldberg vs. Dolph Ziggler
On the other side of things, we’ve got Goldberg and Dolph Ziggler in a match that annoys me to no end. After a disastrous showing against The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia, which everyone saw coming, Goldberg is back to squash Dolph Ziggler. This is a complete waste. This takes The Miz off the show. This wastes a Ziggler match on the show. And they teased us with Shawn Michaels and then give us Goldberg? Ugh.
Prediction: We all know Goldberg wins here but I’m at least hoping for something good out of this, even if it’s Ziggler overselling things like HBK did with Hulk Hogan back in 2005. The bump for the spear should be amazing.
