Crystal Palace face Everton at Selhurst Park on Saturday, Aug. 10. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The Premier League returns with Crystal Palace hosting Everton at Selhurst Park on the first weekend of the season. Last season, Palace finished 12th with 49 points, five points behind Everton who finished eighth.
In their six seasons since earning promotion to the Premier League, Palace have finished between 10th and 15th every season. That is unlikely to change this season. Roy Hodgson’s team did not make much of an effort to improve over the summer. The Eagles added Jordan Ayew from Swansea and Gary Cahill from Chelsea. Both players will help with Palace’s depth but are unlikely to help the club finish in the top half of the table.
The success of Palace will be determined by the play of Wilfried Zaha. The Ivory Coast international is Palace’s best player but has been involved in transfer rumors for the past two seasons. After scoring 10 goals and adding 10 assists, Zaha will again drive the attack for the Eagles. However, if they do decide to sell Zaha for a massive fee, Palace could spend the season fighting for their Premier League survival this season.
Everton are looking to take the next step and become a fixture in the Premier League top four. Over the past 13 seasons, the Toffees have finished eighth or better in 11 seasons. However, over that stretch, they have not been able to break into the top four and qualify for the Champions League. Manager Marco Silva made several big signings to improve Everton this season. The biggest signing was 19-year-old Moise Kean from Juventus.
The Toffees paid €27.5 million for one of the brightest young talents in Serie A. Kean scored six goals last season despite playing only 533 minutes. At Everton, Kean should get a chance to start immediately and could make Juventus regret their decision to sell him.
