Top-Tier Defenders

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Chelsea @ Manchester United, $16) – Wan-Bissaka was a stud for Crystal Palace last year, and I’m interested to see how to performs in a new shirt.  He’s tremendous and collecting defensive stats and has provided some attacking upside in the past as well.

My fear is that United’s style of play will limit his attacking duties.  Regardless, I still like the idea of playing him in this matchup.  With the limited value at other positions, I don’t see the need to prioritize Wan-Bissaka however.

Fabian Schar (Arsenal @ Newcastle, $16) – Schar might be the best defender on this slate at getting peripheral stats.  He averaged over 20 fantasy points per game last year, and this is a good matchup for him to stay on par with that average.

Schar did score 4 goals last year as well, so there is some boom potential.  Much like Wan-Bissaka, I don’t think it’s necessary to pay up for a defender on this slate, but if you have the money, Schar is a good option.

Ben Chilwell (Wolverhampton @ Leicester, $14) – The final top-tier defender I am targeting on Sunday is Chilwell.  He did not start last season out well fantasy-wise.  It took him until January to eclipse 20 fantasy points, however, he scored 20+ in 5 out of the last 7 games of the season.

With Harry McGuire out of the picture, Chilwell will have more defensive responsibilities to go along with his role in Leicester’s attack.  Chilwell gets defensive stats well, have his ability to create chances adds nice upside.
