These three tight ends perform at a high level that they separate themselves from the rest.

Zach Ertz

Ertz played in all 16 games for the first time last season. As a result, he caught 116 passes on 156 targets for 1,163 yards and eight touchdowns. With Carson Wentz back under center, he will get back to his high-scoring ways.

Though, the additions of DeSean Jackson, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, and Miles Sanders could see a change in targets. Though, when he commands so much of the field, he will still get eight to 10 targets per game.

George Kittle

Even playing with the combination of Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard, and Nick Mullens, Kittle was still able to finish as a top-three tight end. He caught 88 passes for 1,377 yards and five touchdowns.

Marquise Goodwin left practice with a leg injury, though the exact injury is unknown. If he were to miss any time, Kittle becomes the favorite for Garoppolo with only Dante Pettis on the depth chart.

If you want to lock up the tight end position early and don’t have to worry about streaming all season, then Kittle is worth a pick within the first three rounds.

Travis Kelce

Kelce has been one of the best players, let alone tight ends, in fantasy football. He scored 295 fantasy points last year. He caught 103 passes for 1,336 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Those are close to WR1 numbers.

Should Tyreek Hill suffer an injury, Kelce will be getting every pass thrown his way. I’m usually not a fan of drafting my starting tight end before Round 6 but if Kelce is there at the beginning of Round 3, I’m taking him. You can’t find a player that could put up his numbers later in the draft.

The tight end position is top-heavy but if you’re looking for value, there are plenty of late options. This isn’t a position you want to stress over on draft day. Stock up on wide receivers and running backs and get your tight end later.
