1. Philip Rivers 20/1

Philip Rivers is the best bet for NFL MVP this season. At 20/1, Rivers is a bet you need to make right now. The Los Angeles Chargers are a darling for many this season. They were really good last season, and became the hottest team in the NFL down the stretch. After starting the season 1-2 (with both losses coming to the eventual number-one seeds in the respective conferences), they went 11-2 for the rest of the season.

Again, we think this year is going to be one of those years where no one player stands out above the rest like Mahomes did last season. This gives Rivers a chance to finally win an MVP award for the first time in his career. He’s been a very good player, but seeing him take yet another step forward this late in his career would be a storyline that everyone would get behind.

The Chargers might be dealing with some drama with Melvin Gordon, but that might help Rivers MVP case. If he shows the leadership quality to get the Chargers past this issue, then he will get some empathy votes. Gordon could sit out a while, but if Rivers stays upright the Chargers always have a chance to win.

The Chargers could win 12-13 games this season, and if they do Rivers will get some MVP love. Again, we don’t expect him to throw for 50 touchdowns, but we expect some regression from the ridiculous touchdown numbers of last year.

Next. This Antonio Brown story is insane. dark

They are set for four nationally televised games, meaning that Rivers can dominate in front of the most possible eyes. Even if he has a great Thursday night performance against the Oakland Raiders in Week 10, that will be the headline for every sports talk show that Friday.

Rivers is the bet to make. He has a great chance to actually win the award, and he’s getting 20/1 odds. Throw $100 on this bet and walk away with $2,000.
