Fantasy football 2019: Five players to avoid on draft day
By Joe Metz
Fantasy Football Wide Receiver to Avoid: Jarvis Landry | CLE
Current ADP: 71.4 (ESPN)
After starting out the season as a target machine and topping at least 11 fantasy points (full point PPR) in every week through week 5, Landry started to see a huge spike in inconsistency and a massive drop in volume last year.
The biggest reason, perhaps, was when the Browns overhauled their offense and welcomed Freddie Kitchens as the offensive coordinator. Prior to the move, Landry was averaging 6.1 catches per game on roughly 32% of the team’s targets. In the second half of the season, those numbers dropped to an average of 4 catches per game on 21% of the team’s targets.
The emergence of Nick Chubb also caused the Browns to get away from airing it out nearly as much towards the second half of the season and now with the addition of Odell Beckham Jr., Landry’s quick stint as the WR1 comes to an end. While he’s a reliable bet to gain chunk yardage when he makes the catch, the lack of consistency in getting those said catches, especially with OBJ in town, has me a bit wary of drafting him as my WR2/3.
Who I’d draft instead: Mike Williams (ADP of 75.2)
