Fantasy football 2019: Five players to avoid on draft day
By Joe Metz
Wide Receiver to Avoid: Allen Robinson | CHI
This is not as much of a knock on Robinson as it is a highlight of the unfortunate (yet fortunate in a real-life football scenario) fantasy situation that he finds himself in within this Bears’ offense.
A year after missing the season with a torn-ACL, Robinson was able to lead the Bears in targets, but only topped 5 catches in 3 games, while posting less than 10 fantasy points in full-point PPR scoring 7 games. A bit odd for a receiver that led his team in targets, no?
Well, while his 19.96% led the team in target share, there were 4 other players that had a target share of at least 10%, while Taylor Gabriel was neck-and-neck with Robinson at 19.21%. On top of that, Robinson recorded only 5 catches on the season in the red-zone, whereas running back Tarik Cohen recorded 12, tight end Trey Burton had 11 and receiver Anthony Miller had 7.
While the Bears passing game was already a crowded entity last season, the addition of David Montgomery should only add to that as well as shifting a chunk of the offense’s focus away from the passing game and more on the ground game.
Robinson is fully capable of putting up some crooked numbers any given week, but I have a hard time finding any hope for consistency as a WR2/3 here.
Who I’d draft instead: Marvin Jones Jr. (ADP of 101.2)
